THUNDER BAY SCHOOLS RECEIVE FUNDING WEAVING NATURE AND EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS

Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds awards funding to local schools for nature projects, outdoor classrooms and vegetable gardens on school grounds

THUNDER BAY, ON To enrich students’ learning experience with nature several schools in and around Thunder Bay have received a total of $10,600 in funding from Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds, a national school ground greening program.  The funding supports the schools’ individual greening projects to create more natural school grounds with native trees, shrubs, flowers and/or vegetables.  Benches, boulders, raised garden beds and other details are also planned to create places to sit and study.

This spring St. Thomas Aquinas School (Thunder Bay) received $2,000, Agnew H. Johnston Public School (Thunder Bay) received $1,300, Kakabeka Falls District Public School (Kakaebeka Falls) received $1,300 and Upsala Public School (Upsala) received $2,000.  St. Jude (Thunder Bay) received $2,000 and St. Bernard (Thunder Bay) received $2000.

To present the funding, Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds connects with schools on a local level through Toyota Dealerships across the country.  Thunder Bay Toyota Dealer, Michael Marostica from Wayne Toyota, presented the schools with the Learning Grounds cheques.

“The students, parents, teachers and staff at these schools have all worked hard to develop detailed plans to bring nature to their school grounds,” says   Michael Marostica, dealer principal, Wayne Toyota. “Wayne Toyota is proud to support education through nature and thrilled to take this opportunity to give back to students and residents in Thunder Bay and its surrounding communities.”
